There are high chances that either you or somebody in your life has had issues with high blood pressure. What exactly is BP all about? 1. It can lower renin activity
ACV is mainly made of acetic acid. This has profound effects on renin activity. In a particular study, researchers gave ACV to rats that have high BP. It took a while of consistent use, but eventually, the BP of the rats came down.
But then, it was not only the BP of the rats that came down. The levels of the enzyme, renin also came down. Experts hold the idea that the lower levels of renin activity were responsible for the reduced BP.
Another study, similar to this, shows that acetic acid also helps with the absorption of calcium. This, in turn, impacts renin activity.
2. It can lower blood sugar
When your blood sugar comes down, your blood pressure is likely to come down too. Doctors sometimes prescribe Metformin for diabetic people to help lower their blood glucose. A study shows that this medication also lowers BP.
ACV, like Metformin, also lowers blood glucose. Some experts believe that ACV might also help lower BP in the same manner as Metformin. However, there is still a need for more research to clearly connect the two.
3. It can help with weight-loss
High BP has a very close connection with obesity. They often go together. For BP issues, it may help to use ACV instead of high-salt and high-fat oils and dressings.
With lower salt intake, you can both manage high BP and reduce your waistline. But this would work best if you combine it with a healthy diet, rich in potassium. Examples of potassium-rich foods include avocados and spinach, among many others.

A study in 2012 tried giving 19 people ACV for more than 8 weeks to see how it affects cholesterol levels. The result shows that ACV reduced their cholesterol levels.
We know that high cholesterol works together with high BP to cause heart disease. These two are major risk factors that can damage your heart and arteries more quickly.
When you use add ACV to your diet, you may achieve lower BP and cholesterol levels in one fell swoop.
So then, how can you add ACV to your diet? To enjoy all the benefits that Apple cider vinegar can offer, you should aim for three teaspoons daily at 3–9% concentration.
You may find it hard to drink raw concentrated ACV. But you may mix other flavors into it. With this, it can go down more easily.
Here are a few ideas on how to incorporate ACV into your diary:
- Add ACV to your cooked popcorn
- Mix ACV with herbs and olive oil for your salad dressing
- Drizzle ACV over veggies or meat
- Try adding ACV to your tea. Mix it with a little amount of honey and as much water is needed.
- Add ACV to your smoothie
- Take one shot of ACV in the morning instead of coffee.
- Make a tonic
Apple Cider Vinegar Tonic
- 1/16 tsp Cayenne pepper
- 1 tablespoon Apple Cider Vinegar
- In a glass of water, add cayenne pepper and ACV.
- Don’t use too much cayenne pepper for your tonic.
ACV Alone Is Not Enough
There are many other dietary and lifestyle measures you should take if you are managing high blood pressure. ACV alone will not be enough to help manage your blood pressure. There are exhaustive studies on these lifestyle and dietary measures. So you can be well assured that they work.
One thing that would help is to check for labels for sodium levels. If you find that the sodium level in a food option is high, try to avoid it. Go for low-sodium options as much as possible. Soy sauce and chicken broth are especially high in sodium. You should try your best to avoid them.
You can even make your low-sodium food at home if the commercial options are not safe. One way to manage sodium levels in your food is to reduce your salt intake. Put only a little salt in your hamburger patties and soup.
Does apple cider vinegar lower blood pressure? Yes, it does. But you should work with a licensed doctor to manage your BP. More so, you must pay close attention to following your doctor’s advice. Don’t stop taking your prescribed medications. Keep following all the recommended routines as well. ACV would make your results more effective.
